Team MVP

The Winner: Leo Musso

Other Nominees: Corey Clement

Both of these players are very deserving of our highest award, but in the end Safety Leo Musso comes away as the winner for a multitude of reasons. Musso had a quality 2016 season for sure numbers wise, but his presence goes much deeper than that in terms of his impact and value.

The MVP discussion is always one that sparks debate, and it all depends on what you factor the award on. If you measure the winner on numbers alone, instead of value you can portray a different argument. If you measure it based on leadership and on the field value Musso comes away with the award 10/10 times.

When thinking about the impact that a guy like Leo Musso had, I think back to each and every tight game the Badgers played this season. Whether I was watching in the stands or at home with family I often heard a similar phrase, “We need a big play Musso.”  Each and every time when the backs seemed against the wall Musso made a play that seemed to bring us back or give us the dagger to put the game away. From the heroic play against Michigan State, to the huge pick against Minnesota Musso always seemed to be the guy that made a play when you needed him most, which is what the value in MVP is all about. While his career wasn’t a long one, he certainly made an impact when he got his chance. That is why we made Leo Musso our most valuable player for Wisconsin Football. We will certainly miss seeing #19 next fall.
