Wisconsin Basketball: Evaluating Big Ten title contenders’ remaining schedules
Northwestern Wildcats: 20-7 (9-5)
Off to their best start ever, the Northwestern Wildcats’ first priority at this point is clinching their first ever NCAA Tournament berth, and barring a catastrophic collapse it looks like they are in good shape.
The Wildcats sit just two games out of first place, which seems like a long shot with the way things have been going. Northwestern does have the tiebreaker and advantage over the Wisconsin Badgers due to their lone-meeting victory and still have Purdue on their schedule.
It is likely the Wildcats are kicking themselves about their home loss to Illinois earlier this month, as that game- what looked to be a sure-fire win for the Cats on the schedule- would have them just one game out of first had it gone in their favor.
Two tough road games await the Wildcats this week as they look for revenge on Illinois and then travel to Bloomington to face an Indiana team desperate for a win. The Wildcats will finish the season at home against Purdue, and if any chaos occurs before then, that game could mean more with title implications riding on it.
