Wisconsin Badgers point guard Bronson Koenig is the new record holder for most threes ever at UW.

Bronson Koenig was the lone bright spot in the Wisconsin Badgers’ 83-73 loss at Ohio State Thursday night, tying his career high in points with 27. While the offense of the Badgers seemed to be clicking a bit more, the defense could not slow down the Buckeyes and their barrage of three-point shooting, allowing 62.5 percent from behind the arc.

Perhaps the biggest storyline from the game, other than the loss, was the newfound accomplishment Koenig can now add to his illustrious career at Wisconsin.

Entering the game three three-pointers behind Ben Brust’s all-time record at Wisconsin, Koenig came out on fire- connecting on four in the first half. With his fourth, which came in the closing seconds of the first frame, he passed Brust on the all-time list, knocking down his 236th career triple. Koenig would add one more in the game.

It took a little longer for Koenig to reach this mark after Brust became the record holder just two seasons ago. Despite little action as a freshman, Brust was able to get to 235 three-pointers in 124 games, while this was Koenig’s 139th. Nonetheless, the accomplishment is a big one and Koenig will go down as one of the best sharpshooters in Wisconsin history.

Both Brust and Koenig have been known for hitting clutch triples when they team needed it most and despite Koenig’s quick timing on beating the record, it will not be easy for others to reach this mark. Wisconsin has surely been fortunate to have these two players at their disposal over the last five-plus years or so.

Koenig will have plenty of time to add to his margin before he graduates this season. Wisconsin has three regular season games remaining, as well as (hopefully) deep runs in the Big Ten and NCAA Tournaments.

The Badgers will face Michigan State on the road on Sunday.
