Wisconsin Badgers star Trent Frederic has been named rookie of the month for February.
A successful month for the Wisconsin Badgers men’s hockey team turned into an even more successful few weeks for their star freshman Trent Frederic, as he was named the Hockey Commissioners’ Association (HCA) National Rookie of the Month for February.
Frederic is second on the team in goals and points for the year and started off the month of February with his first ever multi-goal game in the first weekend versus Michigan State. One of his signature highlights of the year was a goal at home against Michigan, where he took the puck into the net just eight seconds into the entire game.
Frederic has been the Badgers’ leading scorer since the start of the calendar year and has registered eight goals and six assists for a total of 14 points in February. He registered a point in all eight games in the month, with five multi-point sessions.. He also tied second in the nation for most goal during that time frame.
Frederic, a first-round draft pick to the Boston Bruins, is also tied for second in the Big Ten for goal scoring. He has 11 goals through 16 games up to this point. He is also second in the conference for average points per game: 1.33. The Badgers will close out their regular season on the road vs. State before returning home in two weeks to host Ohio State.
As previously mentioned, Frederic began the month of February with a multi-goal game against Michigan State and also adding an assist for the weekend. He then had another three-point weekend the following weekend, despite the team being swept at Penn State. Frederic turned it on in their return home to Madison, a sweep over Michigan that included four goals, a game-winner and the fastest goal ever to start a game in program history.
Frederic will look to continue his hot streak as the No. 16 Badgers look to improve their NCAA Tournament resume as they head to Happy Valley to take on No. 11 Penn State in a weekend series starting tomorrow.
