The Wisconsin Football team will be back in action today as Spring Practice Gets Underway

It seems like just yesterday the Badgers were in action taking care in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, but in actually we are already approaching Spring Football as the Badgers get underway later this afternoon. This is the first of 15 practices that will be held by the Badgers leading up to the annual Spring Game on April 21st. Over the course of spring ball the Badgers will look to get reps and get healthy in anticipation for next season.

While many Badger players of a season ago will not be on the field, there will be a large portion of familiar faces on the field this afternoon. Quarterback Alex Hornibrook will be out there, as Chryst recently named him “the guy” heading into Spring Ball according to that of Badgers Insider Andy Baggot. While the decision is not much of a surprise, it does not really mean much with such a long gap to go between now and September. Hornibrook is the most experienced of the bunch, but others like Jack Coan and Kare Lyles will both have many watching eyes on them. The backfield will have a new leader as Bradrick Shaw will take over as the #1 back going forward.

While the offense will have many of its familiar faces back, the defense will have many new or missing faces from Spring ball as the Badgers battle with many nagging injuries. That is certainly a disappointing realization for new defensive coordinator Jim Leonard, who in a new role would like to get as many reps with his unit as possible. The units strongest part is that of the linebackers, but many of the stars will not be in action. Guys like Cichy, Edwards, and Orr will all continue to recover from ongoing injuries suffered last season. All in all, the unit is experienced and the lack of Spring ball should not effect them too much, and will give opportunity to new faces that will be on the field this fall.
