Wisconsin Badgers wide receiver Quintez Cephus is poised to emerge as the team’s No. 2 guy this season.

The Wisconsin Badgers football team lost quite a bit of talent on both sides of the ball after this past season, some to graduation and some leaving early for the NFL Draft.

One of the positions that will be a little think this season is the wide receiver position with Robert Wheelwright departing after his senior year. With Jazz Peavy figured to be the No. 1 guy in his senior season, the Badgers will be looking for that No. 2 threat for (likely) Alex Hornibrook.

During Thursday’s practice, the search for an additional air threat got a whole lot easier after sophomore wide receiver Quintez Cephus erupted for a huge performance that got everyone on the team, and those following spring action, talking.

During an in-practice drill/scrimmage, Cephus caught three touchdowns during the red-zone period and showed great skill shielding off the defensive backs, as noted by Bucky’s 5th Quarter– stating that it was clear Cephus was showing off his former basketball skills.

In addition to Cephus’ performance, Hornibrook looked great as well as the offensive line, which allowed time for him to connect to Cephus on each play.

The speedy wide out from Georgia was not all that involved in the Badgers’ offense last season, carrying the ball five times, more times than he actual caught the ball (4). Cephus was given the opportunity to run the famous jet sweep play, usually run to Jazz Peavy, and took advantage of it- securing 41 yards on six attempts all season.

It was a nice sign to see a player who hadn’t had a huge role last season make the Badgers highlight reel within the first week of Spring practices. After losing two major running backs and a wide receiver- all eyes will be on Peavy this year as he poses as the only real retuning threat at the skill position.

If Cephus keeps this up, the Badgers could be looking at a nice two-headed monster heading into the new college football season.
