Wisconsin Badgers football will hold their annual spring game on Friday night, giving us a brief glimpse into the 2017 team. Heading into the upcoming season, the wide receivers are showing promise for a more dynamic aerial attack.

Alex Hornibrook may have some reliable weapons heading into the 2017 season. The wide receiving group has some of the most promise not seen in recent years.

There’s definitely the reliable, most experienced wide out in the group in Jazz Peavy. The soon to be senior played in all 14 games, catching 43 passes for a team high 635 yards and five touchdowns. The reliable Peavy will no doubt be the focal point in the passing game amongst wide receivers. But with the departure of Rob Wheelwright, the Badgers need a solid number two option.

Cue sophomores Quintez Cephus and A.J. Taylor. The two as freshmen didn’t light up the stat sheets-the two combined for seven receptions for 147 yards and zero touchdowns.

But they are also the two most comfortable with the play calling and, despite limited action, have that all important game experience under their belts.

One more option in the passing game is Kendric Pryor, who took a redshirt last season. Even without the experience as Cephus and Taylor, Pryor will make the battle for option number three very interesting.

The three underclassmen, along with senior George Rushing, will provide plenty of depth for the Badgers. Wide receivers coach Ted Gilmore believes that not only will they have depth this season, but also plenty of potential.

Via Jason Galloway, Wisconsin State Journal:

"That ‘P’ word, potential. I like that. Now, it’s got to be a collective effort and I’ve got to do my job and they’ve got to do their job and hopefully we can get to that point where we do have some depth and we’re not relying on one or two guys. If somebody goes down, we shouldn’t be handcuffed in how we call the game. I think we can have that."

Cephus will most likely be the number two opposite Peavy. Taylor, Pryor, Rushing look to be locked in a hard-fought battle for the number three spot on the depth chart. Either way, this year’s group looks like it has more options available than it has in recent memory.
