The Schools:

The food chain is well established.  The big names in college football can focus on the highest rated recruits first and then fill needs later on in the process.  They have the resources and staff to handle multiple recruiting windows and cover the entire country.  This may make the process a little tidier for them.

The smaller schools may be able to lock in some bigger names before the Power 5 schools catch wind of their diamond in the rough.  The longer the process drags on the more the risk rises of some big school swooping in and drinking your milkshake.  The big school may have just missed out on a top target and decided your special recruit is now the apple of their eye.  While the big boys battle for the 5-Stars during the early window the smaller schools can work hard and securing some solid lower rated recruits without fear of interference.
