New Rule: Coaching Area

"Extend the coach’s box to 38 feet for the 2017-18 season. The coach’s box is now 28 feet. Committee members believe this will allow coaches to improve communication with their teams."

I am aware there is a coaches box.  I am unaware how strictly it is enforced.  Base coaches in baseball have them too.  Those seem to carry equal weight in terms of how much the coach must adhere to its limits.  The NCAA article about the rule change says the point is to “help our coaches, particularly when the ball is at the opposite end of the floor.”  Greg Gard is not necessarily the most demonstrative of coaches so I don’t expect the extra real estate will dramatically alter his behavior.  But if he has a fitbit perhaps this will help him get those 10,000 steps.
