Wisconsin football will open the 2017 season with a night game against Utah State

Badger football hosts the Utah State Aggies on September 1st at 8 p.m. CST.  The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

At present, the Wisconsin game is the only one slated to be on national television that day.  On Saturday, Alabama will take on Florida State televised on ABC at 4 p.m. CST.

Wisconsin’s last season opener under the lights at Camp Randall was in 2011.  Russell Wilson made his Badger debut in a 51-17 victory over UNLV.  Wilson was an efficient 10-13, 255 yards, 62 yards rushing, and 3 total TDs.  Montee Ball added 130 yards from scrimmage and a trio of TDs on his way to 39 total that season.

"It will be the 19th night game in Camp Randall Stadium history. The Badgers are 13-5 in the previous 18. It will also mark the sixth time in school history UW opens its season under the lights at Camp Randall (1995, 2000, 2002, 2009, 2011)."

Utah State finished 3-9 last season (1-7 in conference).  The Aggies scored 23.9 points/game in 2016, just 108th nationally in scoring.  They allowed 29.3 points/game which ranked 73rd nationally.  Utah State returns its top two leading rushers and top two leading receivers from last season.

Utah State LB Chasen Andersen started his college career at Wisconsin, redshirting the 2014 season.  He then transferred to Utah State and recorded 13 tackles in 13 games in 2015 before missing the 2016 season due to injury.

Badger Football 101 for Women

Wisconsin football will be hosting a “Football 101 for Women” event on Wednesday June 14th from 5-9 p.m. CST.  The clinic includes a tour of Camp Randall and the McClain Center.  Hopefully the event won’t come across as patronizing or condescending since football is hardly a foreign concept to Wisconsin women.

"Tickets to the event are $90 per person with all proceeds benefiting the South Central Wisconsin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen."

The coaching staff will discuss game planning and Badger players will answers questions.  Finally, participants will be put through the paces to practice some basic football drills.
