Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks are in rebuilding mode amidst the twilight of Dirk Nowitzki’s career.  Dallas finished 33-49 last season, eight games out of the playoff picture.  Nowitzki’s contract situation should be sorted out soon but he is not going to be on the Mavericks roster by the time they’re ready to challenge Golden State.  That could mean some changes to the Dallas identity.  The Mavericks have an absurd amount of money invested in Harrison Barnes at small forward plus whatever they end up spending on Nowitzki at power forward.  But they don’t have much committed to backups.  One such reserve is former Wisconsin Badger turned bitter Iowa Hawkeye Jared Uthoff who has a $1.3 million deal with Dallas.  Draft rumbles suggest the Mavericks will add a point guard with the 9th pick perhaps to replace ex-Badger Devin Harris in the future.  Assuming Dallas keeps Nerlens Noel as its center, Hayes could fit it as a post pairing with the former Kentucky big man.
