Kirk Ferentz was tied with Penn State’s James Franklin for 10th highest salary in college football in 2016 ($4.5 million).  Is Iowa still getting its money’s worth?

You will often find coach Ferentz on the ‘Overrated’ or ‘Overpayed’ lists that come out every Fall, but it just isn’t accurate in my opinion. Yes, the Hawkeyes haven’t won the Big Ten since 2004, but they were one drive away in 2015 from the College Playoff. That season with the 12-0 regular season took the heat off Kirk, and it is now apparent that surely will retire with the most wins in program history, and will continue as the longest tenured coach in major college football.

Badger of Honor Reaction:

No I do not think Iowa is getting its money’s worth with Ferentz but it’s impossible to see them making a change.  He’s an institution in that state now like corn and wind energy.  Despite some struggles, the Hawkeyes are perennial contenders in the Big Ten West.  Ferentz is 35-18 in the last four seasons in Iowa City and 135-92 in his 18 seasons with the Hawkeyes.  I would imagine we’ll see Ferentz v Chryst for as long as each is content at their employer.
