10 Questions with Spartan Avenue about Michigan State Football
Do the ugly off-the-field episodes for Spartan football soften Mark Dantonio’s job security at all?
ANSWER: That’s been one of the hottest topics of discussion this offseason around East Lansing. Is Mark Dantonio’s job still secure? The answer is yes, he’s got the job as long as he wants it. The only way his job security is softened is if he goes 3-9 for the next two seasons, but I just can’t see that happening. He turned a dormant program into a national contender and changed the entire culture. These off-field issues are a rare occurrence under him and he’s already taken responsibility and is ready to move forward.

No question this is a results business. Dantonio resumes the winning and the temperature on his seat throttles down. But if the Spartans have an ugly 2017 suddenly those off-the-field episodes likely become more important and can’t be swept away because the team is still winning. This is a good time to remind you that Urban Meyer had 31 players arrested during his six seasons with the Florida Gators. Meyer also won a pair of national championships, a Fiesta Bowl, and a Sugar Bowl.
