EAST LANSING, MI – SEPTEMBER 24: Dare Ogunbowale

Entering the 2016 season, Michigan State had quietly been one of the most successful and consistent programs in the country.  How did things go so wrong last year?

ANSWER: Honestly, it was a shock to everyone. Michigan State seemed to have solid senior leadership and coming off a playoff appearance, everything looked to be headed in the right direction. Unfortunately, it was a combination of factors. First, the senior leadership didn’t live up to its potential. Second, the quarterback situation was mediocre, at best. Third, off-field issues were running rampant. Lastly, the locker room atmosphere was toxic. Mark Dantonio trimmed some of the fat, per say, this offseason and 2017 should run much smoother.

Badger of Honor Reaction:

The Michigan State season implosion was one of the more baffling results of the college football season.  Pressure is on the Spartans to start on the front foot this season to show that 2016 was an anomaly and not a sign of something more structural rotting in East Lansing.
