10 Questions with Spartan Avenue about Michigan State Football
Any reason to think the shutout in the College Football Playoff carried over at all (asking for our friends in Columbus)?
ANSWER: As for the shutout in the College Football Playoff, that seemed to be the start of the downfall. Players couldn’t seem to shake the loss and it developed almost into a locker room cancer. They were sick of hearing about it from opposing fans and it must have been too much to handle, emotionally. It most definitely played a part in the disastrous 2016 campaign.
Badger of Honor:
I tend to think the final game of the season has limited predictive value for anything in the subsequent season. Especially in college where you’re rotating out the seniors and those who leave early and breaking in new recruits. Each team is different. I’m sticking with that notion, but man, Michigan State 2016 has an ignominious place as an exception to my rule.
