10 Questions with Spartan Avenue about Michigan State Football
EAST LANSING, MI – NOVEMBER 19: Tyler O’Connor
QUESTION: Who will be the QB in East Lansing this fall?
ANSWER: This fall, we are looking at sophomore Brian Lewerke to take the reigns. The former highly-touted recruit from Arizona is going to add a dual-threat element to an offense that desperately needs a change. He played well in 2016, and even started a couple of games, but a broken leg against Michigan ended his season. He won’t have it easy, though, as redshirt freshman Messiah deWeaver will be pushing him.
Badger of Honor Reaction:
Similar to Wisconsin Football perhaps, the QB isn’t determinative for the offense at Michigan State. The Spartans typically have a solid running game and need an adult at the levers to avoid turnovers and keep the chains moving. That’s not to say the QB does not matter, but clearly based on Connor’s answer, having Lewerke take the lead would be a major asset. Especially if he can man the job for more than one season.
