10 Questions with Spartan Avenue about Michigan State Football
EAST LANSING, MI – SEPTEMBER 24: LJ Scott
Should we be talking more about LJ Scott as the 2nd best RB in the Big Ten (behind Saquon Barkely)?
ANSWER: I’ve been saying it for months now — I think L.J. Scott has the potential to be the best running back in the conference. He doesn’t get enough recognition for the job he does in the Spartan backfield, especially since he splits carries with Madre London and Gerald Holmes. However, he’s recorded the most rushing yards through his first two seasons of any running back in school history, and that includes Le’Veon Bell. He’s on pace to break Bell’s numbers and I’m predicting a 1,500-yard season for the junior.
Badger of Honor Reaction:
A full six of the seven leading Big Ten rushers from 2016 return for 2017. The only one missing is Corey Clement of the Badgers. Justin Jackson of Northwestern, Rodney Smith of Minnesota, Mike Webster of The Ohio State are names to know who will also join the competition to be the “best Big Ten RB not named Saquon Barkley” for the 2017 season. The conference could be in line for producing some serious NFL talent at the RB position similar to 2014 when Melvin Gordon (*swoon), Tevin Coleman (Indiana), David Cobb (Minnesota), and Ameer Abdullah (Nebraska) were all Legends and Leaders.
