Wisconsin Football: 10 Things to know about the Maryland Terrapins
Q: Maryland is 16-22 since joining the Big Ten. How has the transition been overall?
A: Edsall led the transition to the Big Ten, which obviously wasn’t ideal for the program. However, the transition still hasn’t been bad by any stretch. Maryland has been to two bowl games during the first three years as a member of the conference.
Durkin has the program trending in the right direction after a three-win increase from 2015 to 2016. While the schedule is one of the toughest in the nation in 2017, another bowl game definitely is a strong possibility.
Badger of Honor Reaction:
Frankly, I don’t envy the Terrapins here. The divisions as present are fairly imbalanced. Michigan, The Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan State all reside in the Big Ten East with Maryland. The Buckeyes and Spartans have each made the College Football Playoff, they didn’t score but they made it.
Penn State won the Big Ten last year and have arguably the best QB and best RB in the conference this year. In 2016, Wisconsin won the Big Ten West with a 7-2 conference mark, one game ahead of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
That 7-2 record would have tied the Badgers for 3rd in the Big Ten East. It may take a bit for the Terrapins to get acclimated as Rutgers is the only divisional foe Maryland will likely be favored against consistently. It’s a strong division and even competitive Maryland teams can post subpar records because of that.
