Penn State was incredible at 2nd half rallies.  Why was the 1st half such a struggle?

Rhythm seemed to be a problem in the first half of most games.  Last year, they were a young team especially on offense and sometimes it can take players a while to settle in.  For instance, the USC game, McSorley and the receivers weren’t on the same page and it caused two early interceptions.  However, when the team settled in McSorley, Barkley and a loaded receiving corp dominated.

Badger of Honor Reaction:

What I take from this is that perhaps this won’t be as much of an issue moving forward.  Penn State may start more games on the front foot and avoid having to chase games this fall.  Based on this, I’m expecting to see Penn State race to more leads early in games and not have to conjure some big-play magic to get wins.  The focus is on the offense, but credit the defense for doing its job too.  In the Big Ten title game Wisconsin got points on defense and short fields from 4th down stops.  That’s more on offensive inertia than the Penn State defense being the problem.  Sure seems like as goes McSorley so goes the team in Happy Valley.
