Corey Clement Eagles Leading Rusher in NFL Preseason
Former Wisconsin Badger Corey Clement has a solid 2nd preseason game for the Philadelphia Eagles. Clement again received the most carries of any Eagles RB.
The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Buffalo Bills 20-16 on Thursday evening in NFL Preseason action. Former Wisconsin Badger RB Corey Clement paced the Eagles ground game again.
He signed with the Eagles after not being selected in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Clement had a tough preseason outing against the Green Bay packers last week. He rushed for 34 yards on eight carries against Buffalo. He scored a TD and caught two passes for six yards on three targets.
However, he did have one 24-yard scamper meaning his other seven carries went for 10 yards.

Clement lined up as the single back in shotgun formation. The offensive line paved a huge hole on the left side of the line. Clement burst through the B-C gap and galloped into the end zone.
A hole like that doesn’t require tremendous vision. But a good burst for Clement to take advantage.
It’s a needed positive result for Clement who has to distinguish himself in a crowded Eagles backfield. However, the Eagles RB depth chart got slightly less crowded this week with the unsurprising release of Ryan Matthews.
It still appears that free agent addition Legarette Blount is the lead back. Consequently, Blount played four series mustering just eight yards on his five carries. He also recorded two receptions for 15 yards.
However, Blount played alongside starting QB Carson Wentz for all four of Wentz’ series. Generally the franchise QB only plays behind the first choice offensive line. But it also means the Eagles are focused on getting Blount and Wentz reps together.
Clement may still be able to find a home in Philadelphia. He’s a nice balance of strength and speed that other Eagle RB don’t have. Clement is listed at 5’10” 220 pounds. Blount is a massive 6’0″ 250 pounds. The next biggest Eagle RB after Clement is Wendell Smallwood at 5’10” 208 pounds. Rookie Donnel Pumphrey is 5’9″ 176.

In a sense, Clement is a sort of a bridge. If Blount is pure power, and Pumphrey pure pace, Clement offers some of both. That could be a nice addition for the Philadelphia Eagles this season.
