QUESTION: Coach Matt Wells started his Utah State tenure with two good seasons.  The last two seasons were a struggle.  How warm is his seat?

ANSWER: I would definitely say his seat is warm.  My gut feeling is the Aggies probably have to win half their games this season in order for Coach Wells to save his job.

Badger of Honor Reaction:

I can say this for Head Coach Matt Wells.  A win at night on the road at Camp Randall against a Top Ten opponent like Wisconsin would go a long way towards cooling his chair.  That would buy him some leeway in conference.  Frankly, it would also put him on the radar of other schools including the drecks of other power conference schools.  Barry Alvarez has said that Gary Andersen’s performance as Utah State coach during his visit to Madison contribute to him offering Andersen the job.  So even a competitive loss would probably help Coach Well’s job security.  However, you can probably expect a loss here for the Aggies so the result coming out of Madison almost certainly won’t change his long-term outlook in Logan.
