QUESTION: Utah State was 3-9 last season but four losses by a touchdown or fewer.  What’s a best guess win total for the 2017 squad?

ANSWER: I honestly think Utah State will be a much better football team in 2017.  I think the Aggies will make substantial strides offensively under new offensive coordinator David Yost.  Nevertheless, I still have a difficult time seeing more than five or six wins this season.  This is a pretty tough schedule for Utah State.  All of the Mountain West road games are winnable, but the Aggies went 1-11 on the road the previous two seasons.  This team has to prove it can win on the road and that’s the bottom line.

Badger of Honor Reaction:

It’s hard to envision Utah State winning in Madison.  Too many things have to go wrong for Wisconsin included numerous self-inflicted errors.  But consider this notice that Utah State is probably more competitive than its 2016 record suggests.  We’ve seen plenty of season-openers over the years where the Badgers don’t exactly roar out of the blocks.  That said, the Aggies’ road record is pretty illuminating.  Camp Randall is not really the place to try and shake off your road struggles.  However, it is in Wisconsin’s interest to see Utah State prosper this year.  You always want your opponents to have fruitful season to improve your strength of schedule and add polish to a win and explain a loss.
