College Football Polls After Week One
The next batch of the Coaches Poll and AP Poll were released on Tuesday. There is not much different for Wisconsin after week one.
With Tennessee’s overtime triumph over Georgia Tech on Monday, week one of the college football season is in the books. Thus, the AP Poll and Coaches Poll released the latest rankings for week two.
Little change for the Wisconsin Badgers in general. Bucky stuck at 9th in the AP Poll. Yet, Wisconsin dropped one place in the Coaches Poll to 11th.
Frankly, it’s hard to argue too much with the polls at this early stage. There simply isn’t the sample size to justify wild variations from week-to-week yet.

Yes, the final margin 59-10 was impressive. However, Wisconsin struggled for most of the first half which blunts much argument for a big jump.
The Ohio State, USC, Washington joined Wisconsin in struggling in the first half of their games. Thus, pollsters must have deemed it a wash.
The Badgers had 979 points in the AP Poll, just three points ahead of Florida State. Yet, Wisconsin is 24 points behind the Florida State in the Coaches Poll.
The Seminoles tumbled down the rankings after losing to Alabama. No real shame in getting thumped by Alabama in the opener as Wisconsin knows. However, losing star QB Deondre Francois for the year is what likely caused Florida State’s big drop.
The Big Ten still dominates the top of each poll. The Ohio State remains at 2nd in both while Penn State climbs two spots to 4th after thrashing Akron. Michigan is a big winner of the new polls. The Wolverines defensive beatdown of Florida launched them to 8th in both polls.
Meanwhile, a cluster of Big Ten teams are strewn about the “other receiving votes” category of teams just outside the Top 25 in both polls. Most notably, Maryland, Nebraska, and Northwestern received double digit votes.

Also of note, a decent national polling landscape for a number of Wisconsin sports teams. Nice job volleyball, cross country, and soccer. Looking like a good fall in Madison.
