Dontye Carriere-Williams, CB Wisconsin

Badger football has thrown freshman defensive back Dontye Carriere-Williams into the deep end of the pool.  So far there have been some ups and downs as expected with a young player.  That’s always the risk and Wisconsin has calculated its worth it for Carriere-Williams.

Wisconsin has some experienced players in the secondary.  As a result, its not surprising that Carriere-Williams has commanded a disproportionate share of the offensive attention.

That’s led to a few pass completions allowed and even a few missed tackles.  Against BYU, the Cougars were clearly targeting the freshman.  He did get bullied a bit by BYU as they threw at his receiver and forced him to make plays.

Yet he responded nicely by snagging his first collegiate interception as a final retort.

But he clearly has some special potential.  Carriere-Williams is 5-feet-10-inches and 192 pounds, a native of Miami, Florida.  He is currently fourth on the Badgers with 14 total tackles along with the pick and pass breaks up.

On Saturday, the Northwestern passing game will pose a stiff test for the Badgers.  Wisconsin will need Carriere-Williams to play mistake free football on Saturday.  It would be no surprise to see Northwestern asking him questions time and again to try and exploit the Big Ten rookie.
