Previewing the Nebraska Cornhuskers in preparation for Saturday’s pivotal Big Ten West clash from Lincoln

The Wisconsin Badgers and Nebraska Conrhuskers have played some memorable games since the Big Ten expanded.  In fact, Nebraska’s first Big Ten game was in Madison against Russell Wilson and the Badgers.

It didn’t go well for the visitors.  Neither did the Big Ten title game a season later when Wisconsin routed the Cornhuskers 70-31.

Wisconsin leads the all time series 7-4.  The Badgers have won five of the six meetings since the Cornhuskers joined the conference.

Last season, Wisconsin won 23-17 in overtime.  The Badgers actually led 17-7 midway through the third quarter before Nebraska rallied to force overtime.

Bucky scored first in the extra session on a Dare Ogunbowale touchdown run.  The defense held firm and kept Nebraska out of the end zone.

The recent history has been all cardinal and white.  Saturday’s night game is critical for the home side.  Nebraska is 3-2 overall losing consecutive games in the non-conference.

The Cornhuskers rallied but came up short in Eugene against the Oregon Ducks.  They then lost at home to Northern Illinois.

However, Nebraska is a perfect 2-0 in Big Ten play.  The Cornhuskers outlasted Rutgers 27-17.  The Scarlet Knights actually led the game 17-14 early in the third quarter.

Last week, Nebraska rolled into Champaign, Illinois and rolled the Ilini 28-6.  They actually held the home side to fewer than 200 total yards.

But this game is easily the toughest test of the Nebraska season.  Frankly, it’s likely the toughest game yet for Wisconsin as well.
