Junior Quintez Cephus looks to lead the Badgers’ wide receivers in 2018 after suffering a leg injury that sidelined him through the end of the 2017 season.

Before the injury, Cephus had started the season off hot, leading the Badgers with 30 receptions for 501 yards and six touchdowns.  He consistently made solid catches, and seemed to be a leader for the younger receivers.

What added to this impressive season was the fact that he was relatively unknown before that.  In 2016 he only caught four passes for 94 yards. He actually beat his entire 2017 season totals in the game against Purdue, where he caught five passes for 100 yards and one touchdown.

This also was a rather bittersweet season for Cephus, who had just lost his father unexpectedly the spring before.

Cephus is a former three-star recruit out of Georgia who held offers from Miami, Georgia, and Vanderbilt, among others.  There really wasn’t too much buzz around his recruiting, but the Badgers reaped the benefits of that.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him as the go-to target this season.  He returned to practice this spring and has showed leadership through tough times.  With teams focusing mostly on Jonathan Taylor, Cephus has a chance to explode.
