4. September 3rd, 2016 vs #5 LSU at Lambeau Field

Wisconsin kicks off the 2016 season with a huge win vs a top-5 opponent

This game comes right after the Holiday Bowl on the list because it came right after the Holiday Bowl in reality. The good feelings surrounding Paul Chryst and the program were going to be put to the test right away. LSU was the real deal. This game went down to the wire and it was everything we hoped it would be.

Wisconsin’s defense shut LSU out through the first half. LSU’s first points came from a pick-six in the third quarter. Any offense it had was usually due to a Wisconsin turnover, which the Badgers had three of.

Rafael Gaglianone made the game-winning field goal with a few minutes left putting the task back on the defense. The game was sealed when Vince Beigel forced a pressured throw that was intercepted by D’Cota Dixon. Aaron Rodgers’ prophecy on College Gameday had come true and Wisconsin was off to the hottest 1-0 start possible.

Final score: Wisconsin 16, LSU 14

One of the toughest remaining schedules in the country stared Wisconsin in the face, but after the LSU win, there was momentum and confidence in the program. I don’t think Wisconsin would’ve had the year it did if they had dropped this game. The Badgers would have been even bigger underdogs going into the Michigan State game higher up on this list.

Beating LSU gave Wisconsin momentum for the entire season and added one more incredible victory in the young Chryst era. It’s definitely one of the best games to look back on as a fan.
