Badger of Honor reached out to 2019 Running back commit Julius Davis, and he was kind enough to spend some time answering some questions about his recruitment.

Over the last 20 years, Wisconsin football has been known to produce NFL caliber running backs.  Ron Dayne started a tradition as a Badger that continued on with the likes of Montee Ball, James White, Melvin Gordon, and most recently Corey Clement.

Currently, Badger fans have been gifted Jonathan Taylor, who rushed for 1,977 yards his freshman year and was in discussion for the Heisman trophy.  But there is a new talent hoping to make his mark on the Badgers’ backfield in the future. Julius Davis burst onto the scene thanks to an amazing run.

Davis, from Menominee Falls, hopes to be next in line for great Wisconsin running backs when he arrives on campus in fall of 2019.  Davis rushed for 1,762 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2017 as a junior. He is a three-star recruit and verbally committed in November of 2017.

“Wisconsin is my hometown and has been a dream of mine to play for them. The atmosphere and and fans are awesome,” Davis said when asked about why he chose Wisconsin.  “After meeting the coaches and players it really settled in more that this was the place for me,” he added.

“The Running Back U”

Even though Davis has a year before he will be on Camp Randall turf, he already looks forward to contributing to the team.  “There’s going to be great running backs ahead of me and I’m looking forward to doing something special and helping the team win a national title.”

The fact that Davis first wants to help the team win a national championship shows he can be a real team player. However, that doesn’t mean he won’t be competitive with his teammates. “Competing for the starting spot or even being in the rotation will be awesome because it will overall make me a better player,” Davis said.

Davis is aware of the success of Wisconsin running backs, even referring to Wisconsin as “The Running Back U,” but he does have a few favorites. “I definitely like Jonathan Taylor and Melvin Gordon,” he said.

And when asked what his favorite Badger tradition he is most excited about, Davis replied, “the Jump Around every game.”

Off the Field

College life isn’t all about football.  Davis plans to major in physical therapy and minor in business during his time at Wisconsin.  He will be busy, but it doesn’t appear to be anything he doesn’t already handle.  “I am busy with track sectionals and school right now,” Davis said.

That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have fun in his off time.  We asked him one last question: Fortnite or PUBG?  “Easiest answer: Fortnite,” Davis quickly replied. We think Julius can help bring that sweet ‘Victory Royale’ to Wisconsin very soon.
