Carriere-Williams, or DCW, is in the same situation as Loudermilk. He has some experience in rotational snaps, and is going to be put into the lineup as a full-time starter in 2018. The sophomore from Miami has the chops to be a great player and he saw first hand some of the best corner play in the country last year. Former Badger Nick Nelson led the NCAA in passes defensed with 21. DCW had six of his own.

DCW was mostly the nickel corner in last year’s defense. He’s going to get a lot of new matchups, as the number one corner, but the coaching staff trusts his skills. Wisconsin’s secondary is the biggest concern on the roster in 2018. If they play well, DCW will be a large part of why. This also means DCW could fall under fire if the secondary isn’t meeting expectations.

At the end of the day, he is the trusted number one corner. For a team with high expectations from its defense that’s an extremely valuable position. The fact the staff has DCW comfortably at the starting outside spot means he should be ready to handle the workload.

Like Loudermilk, there’s a very good chance we’re looking at DCW come season’s end and wondering how he still has two years of eligibility remaining beyond this season.
