Wisconsin Football adds Georgia Southern as opponent in 2023

Wisconsin Football has added to its non-conference schedule for 2023.

The Badgers will face a non-conference opponent for the first time in 2023. The Georgia Southern Eagles will come to Camp Randall on September 16, 2023, to face Wisconsin Football.

The Eagles are a very young division one football program with mild success. Currently, they are on a bit of a slide. Fortunately for them, if they have any hopes of upsetting the Badgers in 2023, they have plenty of time to right the ship.

Georgia Southern is coming off a 2-10 season where it saw a coaching change in the middle of the season. There isn’t much else to say about that. As a member of the Sun Belt, Georgia Southern saw two nine-win seasons in 2014 and 2015. Success can be had, but it is a long way off.

In its first season as a division one program, Georiga Southern lost to NC State and Georgia Tech by a combined five points. It lost by a score of 23-17 at Georgia the following season. Georgia Southern is capable of playing power five teams well at its height but it’s going to take a much better team than last year’s to compete with Wisconsin in 2023.

Both rosters will be completely turned over by the time this matchup takes place. The Eagles certainly hope to be better and the Badgers hope to continue their upward trend. It’s difficult to expect anything other than a win for Wisconsin in this game. Hopefully Georgia Southern can knock off some other bigger opponents before it plays Wisconsin to strengthen the Badgers’ schedule.

Georgia Southern will play other Big Ten opponents leading up to the matchup with Wisconsin. It plays at Minnesota in 2019 and at Nebraska in 2022.

The Badgers’ current 2023 non-conference schedule includes a road game against Washington State and a home matchup with Buffalo along with Georgia Southern. It’s not presently a great slate but anything can happen between now and 2023.
