Wisconsin Football - Michael Deiter
MADISON, WI – SEPTEMBER 19: Offensive lineman Michael Deiter #63 of the Wisconsin Badgers  (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images) /

Left Guard: Michael Deiter

Michael Deiter more than held his own at left tackle this past year, a position that does not even best suit him.  Earning First-Team All-Big Ten honors last year at a position that is not his primary position shows how good Dieter could be at the next level and proves one of his greatest assets is his versatility.  Look for Paul Chryst and offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph to utilize Deiter’s athleticism by pulling him on tosses and sweeps.

The move to guard also allows last year’s starting guard Jon Dietzen to receive some much-needed rest given his history of lower-body injuries.  Besides wanting to win a Big Ten championship and potentially a National Championship, Deiter wanted to prove to the NFL that he is a bonafide first-round draft pick.  Having a full year of tape as a guard for scouts will eliminate the doubt that surrounds Deiter at the next level.  Deiter has already shown that he has the looks and physique of an NFL offensive lineman.

Deiter’s biggest competition for the best guard in the nation may be just down the line in Madison.

Barring an injury Deiter is almost a lock as an All-American this season. And do not sleep on his ability to impact the passing game.
