Right Guard: Beau Benzschawel

Beau Benzschawel is as good as any guard in the country, maybe better.  The All-American passed up an opportunity to play in the NFL to improve as a senior.  An almost guaranteed first or second round draft pick next year, Benzschawel decided coming back to school would allow him to showcase his growing skill-set and to win championships.  When speaking to Jason Galloway after the Orange Bowl victory, Benzschawel discussed his decision to come back to Madison.  He said, “I was going to be a Day 2, Day 3 guy, so I just wanted to make sure that I can increase my chances of next year to be higher.”

As it seems with just about every Wisconsin lineman, Benzschawel’s combination of power and athleticism gives the offense an even higher potential for creativity.  His ability to get to the second level and block in space will give Wisconsin tailbacks and receivers the opportunity for big plays.  Just see how easily Benzschawel (#66) disposes of the Michigan defender fr this touchdown.

Benzschawel dropped that defensive back like third period French.  Look for ‘Big Beau’ to build on last year and put together another impressive All-American season. Benzschawel’s best ability may be his availability.  His 36 consecutive starts are a testament to how durable he is.

Upperclassmen Jon Dietzen, Jason Erdmann and Micah Kapoi provide quality depth behind both guard positions.  All three lineman would start on most teams in the country.
