DEF Wisconsin

Position Rank: 3

Overall Rank: 165

Wisconsin’s defense is still getting a ton of respect here, and maybe more than it deserves. It’s only behind Alabama’s defense, ranked 155 overall, and Clemson’s, which is ranked 164 overall. Georgia is right on Wisconsin’s tail at 166 overall. Wisconsin returns some talent, but not a lot. Its reputation is what’s keeping it up this high.

Another very underrated reason Wisconsin’s defense is ranked as high as it is is due to the schedule it plays. Wisconsin will play against Penn State’s offense and may have to deal with an elite Shea Patterson at Michigan, but the cupcake teams in the Big Ten West will give Wisconsin plenty of chances to gather turnovers and post good fantasy point totals.

Wisconsin’s defense may be worth reaching a bit for since most fantasy drafts have players who value getting the top defense in the league. Whenever the first defense goes, it’ll trigger a run on defenses meaning Wisconsin could be targetted by somebody else in your league. If you want to ensure you get the Badgers D, you might have to take a gamble.

It’s a gamble that could easily pay off though. Wisconsin has a great track record of performing well on defense. The veterans on the defense are tried and true playmakers and Wisconsin doesn’t have a ton of elite quarterbacks on the schedule. Wisconsin’s defense is worth targetting for sure. Not having to worry about choosing a defense every week relieves a lot of stress. Wisconsin could be a great stress relief.
