Wisconsin Football fall practices are underway. What are the top position battles to monitor during the next few weeks?

Wisconsin Football is BACK, ladies and gentlemen. It seems like only yesterday our beloved Badgers were trouncing the Miami Hurricanes in the Orange Bowl, but fall practices are officially in full swing as Wisconsin prepares to face Western Kentucky in the opener on August 31.

Expectations couldn’t be higher for the 2018 squad. After one of the best seasons in program history that saw the Badgers come within a single drive of earning a College Football Playoff berth, the goal for this season is the absolute pinnacle of the sport: a national championship.

Some may scoff and dismiss these aspirations as a fantasy. However, those who follow Wisconsin Football know this year’s team has the personnel to get it done.

However, in order to reach the Playoff and win a title, there are some players that must step up and position battles that must be sorted out

This is particularly true on the defensive side of the ball, where the Badgers have been hit hard by graduation, as well as preseason injuries to a few key returning players. A number of young and untested players will be thrown into the fire in their place.

The offense looks to be in much better shape, as that unit returns an embarrassment of riches across the board and should be one of the best in the Big Ten, maybe even the country. Most of that lineup appears set in stone, but there are a couple of position battles that will be intriguing to watch over the coming weeks.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the key battles that will be fought throughout fall practices that bear keeping a close eye on.
