Rookies

Rookies are the first round of Badgers in the NFL. This rookie class included five drafted Badgers and a pair of undrafted players.

TE Troy Fumagalli – Denver Broncos – Fumagalli has yet to see the playing field. He has been dealing with a groin injury and has been held out of all the games thus far. Being a 5th round pick, I don’t see Fumagalli in danger of being cut. He is expected to compete for playing time at the position this season with former Michigan tight end, Jake Butt.

CB Nick Nelson – Oakland Raiders – The Raiders played host to the Green Bay Packers in week 3. Nelson has had a solid camp thus far. Nelson played in the slot for most of his time in the game. He had one tackle and was playing well before exiting the game with an apparent hamstring injury. Nelson is a lock for the Raiders roster this year.

LB Jack Cichy – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Cichy, coming off a season-ending knee injury that forced him to miss his last year at Wisconsin, has played well with the Buccaneers so far. This week against the Detroit Lions, Cichy had six tackles, five of which were solo, giving him 10 total tackles this preseason. With solid depth at the linebacker position, Cichy will have to fight to make the team.

LB Leon Jacob – Jacksonville Jaguars – Jacobs got the start for the Jags in week 3 but didn’t record any stats. Since the start of training camp, Jacobs has impressed. There is a feeling out there that the 7th-round pick will be a starter week one for this extremely talented Jacksonville defense. Many reports indicate that Jacobs could be one of the biggest steals of the draft. A Badger flying under the radar…imagine that.

DB Natrell Jamerson – New Orleans Saints – Jamerson, like at Wisconsin, has been versatile for the Saints. He finished with two tackles and one pass defended against the Chargers in week 3. He brings depth to the secondary of the Saints that was vastly improved last season. He should make the roster barring an injury.

DL Connor Sheehy – Green Bay Packers – Sheehy played very little for the Packers on Friday night. He finished the night in Oakland with one tackle. Green Bay is loaded with depth on the defensive line, it will be extremely difficult for Sheehy to make the team.

DL Alec James – Arizona Cardinals – James signed with Arizona as an undrafted free agent. He finished the game against the Cowboys without recording any stats. In last weeks game against New Orleans, James finished with a tackle and a sack. James is currently listed as the 3rd string defensive end and could be a long shot to make the team.

LB Garret Dooley – Minnesota Vikings – Dooley played this week against the Seahawks but didn’t register any tackles on 11 defensive snaps and 15 special teams snaps. He is currently third on the depth chart at the strong-side linebacker position. If Dooley is going to make the team, it will have to be on special teams.
