B+. . . Wisconsin Badgers. SECONDARY

I was very impressed with the secondary Friday night. Lot’s of newcomers, plus a steady vet in D’Cota Dixon made for a very interesting watch in the passing game.

The star of the night is somebody every Badger fan has probably come to love since the game’s conclusion. Redshirt freshman Scott Nelson started alongside Dixon at safety and was everywhere on defense. Nelson recorded two pass breakups, including what should have been an interception. He made a great play, just maybe got too big of eyes as the ball didn’t quite find its way into his hands. He tied for the team lead in tackles and even made one in the backfield for a loss. Some of his tackling looked shaky at times, but he answered the call. He looks like a stud in the making. I can’t wait to see how he plays next weekend.

The starting cornerbacks played very well too. Caesar Williams and Faion Hicks put out a good showing and have some great film to build off of moving forward. The only interception of the night was thanks to a trick play gone very wrong for Western Kentucky that Hicks capitalized on. While it was a gimme, he made sure to secure it.
