Five players to watch for Wisconsin football vs New Mexico
Sticking on offense, this one isn’t so positive. I was very disappointed in the offensive line’s performance against Western Kentucky. Mostly because I know it should be better. Western Kentucky brought several blitzes. To its credit, they were well-schemed. However, the Badgers need to be able to pick those up. The line won’t be facing the likes of Western Kentucky and New Mexico for much longer.
The offensive line did eventually wear down Western Kentucky last week. It wasn’t all terrible. Jonathan Taylor was sprung free for a couple big runs and Taiwan Deal found his way to 6.6 yards-per-carry behind the Badger big men. Plus, Garrett Groshek found the end zone on a screen pass play thanks to the offensive line getting out and clearing a path.
The offensive line can be better, but there’s not much more time to waste. It has to be better now. The last thing Badger fans want to do is have questions about the offensive line heading into the game against BYU with only one more chance to figure things out before the Badgers head to Iowa.
The offense should put up a boatload of points on New Mexico and I’m sure the line will be part of it. But I want to see it with my own eyes.
