Wisconsin Football has dropped in the AP poll for the second straight week

Another week, another win for Wisconsin Football followed by a fall in the Associated Press Top 25 poll after starting out the season as the No. 4 team in the nation.

The latest AP poll was released Sunday, with the Badgers dropping one spot from No. 5 to No. 6 despite a convincing 45-17 win over New Mexico the day before.

Oklahoma moved ahead of Wisconsin following an impressive 49-21 blowout victory over Chip Kelly and the UCLA Bruins. The Sooners also looked phenomenal in their Week 1 63-14 win over a Florida Atlantic team that was expected to give them a battle in that game. It is clear that Oklahoma remains a top contender for the national title even without Baker Mayfield.

The rest of the top five stayed the same with Alabama at No. 1, followed by Clemson, Georgia, and Ohio State.

The same five Big Ten teams represented in last week’s AP poll remain in this week’s version.

As mentioned, Ohio State remains in place at No. 4 following the Buckeyes’ 52-3 beatdown of Rutgers. The Buckeyes have looked very impressive early on despite the absence of head coach Urban Meyer, with quarterback Dwayne Haskins looking like one of the best at his position in all of college football. The Buckeyes will face their first big test of the season this week against No. 15 TCU at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Penn State moved up two spots from No. 11 to No. 13 after a dominant showing in the Nittany Lions 51-6 victory over Pitt. There were many who were doubtful of Penn State’s status as a Playoff contender after the Lions needed overtime to take down Appalachian State, but those concerns should be put to rest some now. Next up is a matchup with Kent State in Happy Valley on Saturday.

Michigan also made a small jump in the polls, going from No. 21 to No. 19. The Wolverines responded well to the tough loss against Notre Dame last week, blowing out Western Michigan 49-3. They play host to SMU on Saturday.

Michigan State plummeted all the way from No. 15 to No. 25 after a 16-13 loss to Arizona State in Tempe. The defeat comes a week after a very narrow victory over Utah State.  It’s still very early, but the Spartans have been the biggest disappointment in the Big Ten so far after many were expecting them to challenge for the crown in the East division this season. They could very well be tested again this week against Indiana in Bloomington.

Maryland and Iowa also received Top 25 votes after victories over Bowling Green and Iowa State, respectively.

It wasn’t all bad news in the polls for Wisconsin yesterday, however. The Badgers held their position at No. 6 in the Amway Coaches Poll, trailing Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, and Oklahoma.
