Wisconsin Football stays put in week two Big Ten Power Rankings
5. Iowa Hawkeyes
Iowa took care of business over the weekend handling in-state rival Iowa State. The game wasn’t pretty and was only tied 3-3 at halftime. The Hawkeyes shut down David Montgomery and won the second half handily while still being unimpressive themselves.
A win is a win though and Iowa had as good of a win as just about any other program in the Big Ten this weekend. Iowa hasn’t dominated yet this year, and may not anytime soon, but it’s taking care of business.
Iowa State was a popular choice to make some noise in the Big 12 this year and Iowa never really gave the Cyclones a chance to compete. Whether it’s ugly or not, it’s still a win. And that’s more than most teams in the Big Ten can say.
Iowa’s Nate Stanley struggled again throwing for only 166 yards. But I’m going to say it again: A win is a win. As long as Iowa wins, it doesn’t matter how well it plays.
Next week the Hawkeyes host FCS opponent Northern Iowa before welcoming Wisconsin in week four. If Iowa can pull off that upset over the Badgers, it’ll not only be in the driver’s seat in the Big Ten West, but it’ll be on its way up these power rankings.
