Wisconsin Football stays put in week two Big Ten Power Rankings
3. Penn State Nittany Lions
Penn State took a 14-6 lead into halftime before blowing out the Pitt Panthers in the second half of its game over the weekend. I was expecting a bigger game from Trace McSorley, especially considering the Nittany Lions posted 51 points on the night, but he completed less than half of his passes for 145 yards. He threw for two touchdowns and picked up another on the ground.
Penn State won with defense and was simply too talented for Pitt. It took a while to get going, but Penn State performing the way it did is what was expected right from the start of the season. That giant may be awoken in the Big Ten East.
Penn State should cruise to wins in its next two outings, first against Kent State and then going to Illinois. Then it’ll host Ohio State in one of the most anticipated games of the entire college football season. As that game approaches we’ll talk about it more here at Badger of Honor and how that will impact the Big Ten. As of right now, Penn State still has work to do as Ohio State has yet to be mentioned in this post.
The potential is there for the Nittany Lions, but unless they upset the Buckeyes, this is as high as they’ll get in these power rankings until, potentially, after they play Wisconsin.
