Wisconsin Football stays put in week two Big Ten Power Rankings
1. Ohio State Buckeyes
Ohio State killed Rutgers this past weekend after killing Oregon State the weekend before. The two Buckeye quarterbacks that saw snaps against the Scarlet Knights were both underclassmen. Dwayne Haskins and Tate Martell combined to complete 30 of 33 passes for over 350 yards and five touchdowns. The Buckeyes also ran the ball for more than 200 yards as a team. It was a dominating performance.
Rutgers is only a Power 5 team in name. Western Michigan and New Mexico wouldn’t have fared much better or worse against the Buckeyes, but that doesn’t take away from what they did. Ohio State is rolling without Urban Meyer on the sidelines and there’s very little in sight that might be able to slow this beast down.
Next week Ohio State plays TCU in Arlington, Texas in what is basically road game, but being sold as a neutral site game. TCU has an extra day off as it played Friday night. The Horned Frogs didn’t play well, but still managed a big win over SMU. Regardless, this is, by far, Ohio State’s toughest game of the season to date. If the Buckeyes roll in this one too, it could get ugly for the rest of the Big Ten East division.
Michigan State has some serious work to do to find its way back into these power rankings. As do Northwestern, Purdue, and Nebraska if they want to make an appearance. That fifth spot is up for grabs. Depending on how Michigan and Penn State follow up their big wins, maybe more spots will become available.
