Wisconsin Basketball extended a new offer in the 2020 recruiting class on Monday

Football season may be in full swing, but it’s never a bad time to talk Wisconsin Basketball.

It’s been a while since we have heard any noise from Greg Gard and his staff on the recruiting trail, who last made a move three weeks ago with the offer to 2021 forward Matthew Mors.

However, they were back at it again on Monday, offering 2020 power forward Shon Robinson (Gilbert, AZ), who announced his Wisconsin offer via Twitter.

Robinson is a 4-star prospect and ranks as the No. 74 player nationally in his class, per the 247Sports composite rankings. As a sophomore at Higley High School last season, he averaged 17 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game.

Robinson has an extensive offer list, with programs such as Arizona, Arizona State, DePaul, Florida State, Illinois, Iowa, Nevada, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, UNLV and USC currently involved in his recruitment.

Robinson may be playing his high school ball in Arizona now, but he is originally from Chicago, having transferred from Morgan Park High School in the Windy City to Higley between his freshman and sophomore seasons. Wisconsin assistant coach Howard Moore has strong ties in Chicago, so it’s possible he has connections to Robinson’s camp that led to the Badgers offering.

Wisconsin is still looking for its first commitment in the 2020 class, and Robinson is now the eighth known player that the Badgers have offered. At this point, Arizona appears to be the favorite to land his services.

5-star forward Jalen Johnson out of Nicolet High School in the Milwaukee area remains the unquestioned top target for Greg Gard in the 2020 class. Wisconsin should be in that race until the end with the relationship they have built with him over the last few years, though their chances of landing Johnson certainly are not stellar considering his other offers. Shooting guard Johnny Davis (LaCrosse, WI) is probably the best bet to become a Badger of the eight offered prospects at this point.
