. . Wisconsin Badgers. SECONDARY. A

The secondary had a fine showing despite being picked apart on New Mexico’s first drive too. This group is much less experienced than the linebackers though. It also forced two turnovers on the day so it’ll receive a higher grade.

The leading tackler on the team in the game was a member of the secondary, safety D’Cota Dixon. He had nine tackles, including one for a loss. His neighbor in the defensive backfield, freshman Scott Nelson, was everywhere on the field yet against this week.

He missed a few tackles early in the game but made his fair share too. He also tallied the first interception of his career by jumping a deep route as New Mexico was approaching the goal line. Nelson is doing great things, but greater things are yet to come.

Madison Cone also tallied the first interception of his young career too. Cone’s interception set up the final touchdown drive of the game for the Badgers in the fourth quarter. I was impressed by his ability to bait and take advantage of the throw on his pick. Cone is a ballhawk through and through.

The rest of the secondary played admirably. New Mexico couldn’t move the ball too well after its opening drive and the Badgers only allowed 134 yards passing. It looks like this unit is going to be pretty solid.
