In this week’s tale of the tape for Wisconsin Football’s matchup with BYU, we’ll compare the coaching staffs, the quarterbacks, offense, defense, and special teams of both teams.

Last week, Wisconsin had a bit of a slow start against the New Mexico Lobos. They gave up a touchdown on the Lobo’s opening drive where they did pretty much whatever they wanted against the Badger defense. At the half, Wisconsin held on to just a 10-7 lead. Eventually, the Wisconsin offensive line wore the Lobos down, helping Jonathon Taylor to a career game.

Although it was an impressive win, the voters for the AP Top 25 poll still found a way to bump the Badgers down a spot in the poll for the second consecutive week to number six. They did, however, manage to earn a first-place vote, something the three teams ahead of them (Georgia, Ohio St., and Oklahoma) did not.

BYU won its opening game on the road in Tucson over the Arizona Wildcats, 28-24. Last week, the Cougars lost a close game to the Cal Golden Bears at home. Almost opposite of Wisconsin, the Cougars played well in the first half but struggled mightily on offense in the second half. Down by 11 in the final quarter, the Cougars pulled within three but the Golden Bears, led by former Badger Defensive Coordinator Justin Wilcox, held on to win the game 21-18.

Last season, Wisconsin went into Provo and embarrassed the Cougars 40-6. The Cougars will be looking to exact some revenge on the Badgers.
