I mentioned Maryland’s win over Texas already but that’s basically why the Terps are here. They just beat down a battered Minnesota and are 3-1. It’s mildly impressive. But that win over Texas could have huge implications on the rest of the season for both programs.

Texas is currently 3-1 with good wins over USC and TCU and looks like it might, finally, be back. If the Longhorns were 4-0 and hadn’t lost to Maryland, they’d be ranked in the top ten this week. Instead, they’re 18 and Maryland holds one of the best wins in the country.

Maryland is difficult to get a read on. The win over Texas is just strange. If they played this week it probably wouldn’t go Maryland’s way. Then again, it wasn’t supposed to go Maryland’s way the last two times these teams played.

Maryland just killed Minnesota as a 2.5-point favorite but got throttled by Temple as a 16-point favorite. This team has to show me more if it wants to be any higher than it currently is.

Maryland has a bye, then goes to Michigan, hosts Rutgers, goes to Iowa, then hosts Illinois in its next four games. If the Terps can come out of that stretch with a 3-1 record then there will be more talk about this team maybe moving up in the Big Ten. A 2-2 record is most likely, and a 1-3 record would be disastrous.

I’m not quite keeping a whole eye on Maryland. But they’re interesting.
