Somehow, Michigan State is still ranked with absolutely zero impressive games played this season. A squeaked-out win over Utah State in week one and a loss to Arizona State the week after are not something a 14-point win over Indiana after a bye week can make up for. But here we are.
Realistically, Michigan State can’t be any lower than this in these power rankings because if we’re just being honest, the Spartans are better than the teams behind them. At some point, they’ll start playing like a ranked team and maybe find their way back into the top five.
I’m not holding my breath.
This team was supposed to compete for a Big Ten title and maybe even more than that. There’s still a ways to go before Michigan State plays a meaningful game so we’ll have to hold off on any further judgment. Unfortunately.
We’ll see how Penn State’s season unfolds as well until October 13th when the Spartans travel to Happy Valley. We should have a much better idea then about what this Michigan State team is made of. Until then, they’ll beat up on Central Michigan and Northwestern and continue to probably rise in the AP Poll.
