Make the Sweet 16 in basketball

Wisconsin is looking like it will be back in the Big Dance this March, but that’s become a given. With the exception of last year, the Badgers are a mainstay in the NCAA Tournament. What I want to see this team do in Ethan Happ’s final season is at least crack the second weekend and make the Sweet 16.

The Badgers have looked like a team more than capable of making this happen at times this year. They have the firepower, the makeup, the leadership, the go-to guy, and the depth to make a run in the tournament. It’s all about putting it together. The Badgers killed Penn State over the weekend by doing exactly this. However, Penn State isn’t the kind of team the Badgers will see in the tournament.

Wisconsin had back to back losses to Western Kentucky and Minnesota before the Penn State game where they shot a combined 11 for 43 from beyond the arc. Three-point success hasn’t been a necessity for the Badgers to win this season, but it might be in March. That will be something to watch for this team as the season unfolds.

It will be all about matchups come March, but the Badgers are good enough to end up in the final 16. And if you can make it that far, what’s to stop you from going further?
