Quarterbacks

Wisconsin

After a not so contested battle in fall camp, Jack Coan will be the starter for the Badgers. Coan played in 5 games after Alex Hornibrook was injured. He led the Badgers to a 3-2 record and passed for 515 yards, five touchdowns, three interceptions and added a rushing touchdown as well.

Reports out of fall camp are that Coan looks a lot more comfortable with the offense and was the clear-cut number one quarterback on the roster. Chryst also said that both Chase Wolf and Graham Mertz will be ready to play if needed, not giving an indication on who was the backup quarterback.

South Florida

South Florida’s offense is run by the once highly-recruited quarterback, Blake Barnett. He was one of the top quarterbacks coming out of high school in 2015 and enrolled at Alabama. He then transferred and ended up at Arizona State, and then transferred again found a home in South Florida.

Last season he threw for 2,705 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He will be heavily relied upon by this team to lead this new offense put into place by offensive coordinator Kerwin Bell.

Barnett may have had more passing yards last season, but he started and played in more games. He had 350 passing attempts compared to Coan’s 93 attempts. However, when comparing completion percentage and passer rating, Barnett (61.1% and 131.1) came out just ahead of Coan (60.2% and 118.0).

Advantage: South Florida
