Wisconsin Football hosts the Central Michigan Chippewas tomorrow. Here’s how the two teams match up in this week’s tale of the tape.

In this week’s tale of the tape, we’ll take a look at Wisconsin football’s matchup with Central Michigan. We’ll compare the quarterbacks, offenses, defenses, and special teams for both teams and take a look at who has the advantage.

Wisconsin is coming off of an impressive win on the road against South Florida where the Badgers shut out the Bulls and hung 49 points on their defense. Jonathan Taylor had another impressive game and Jack Coan looked like he belonged as QB1. After the win, Wisconsin football jumped two spots to number 17 in the AP poll.

Central Michigan also started the season with a win, defeating Albany last week, 38-21. The Chippewas had a nice day offensively, totaling 529 total yards. Even though it was against an FCS school, the Jim McElwain era started off on the right foot.

Quarterbacks

Wisconsin

Jack Coan came into the game last week with what many thought would be a short leash. He threw for 201 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also completed 19 of 26 passes, good for 73%. His quarterback rating was 162.8.

The crowd clamoring for freshman quarterback Graham Mertz has been quiet all week. Coan should feel good about his performance last Friday going into the game this weekend. He looked comfortable in the pocket and delivered some big throws. He did have a pass where he overthrew Quintez Cephus on a bomb, but that can be fixed with some more practice. Coan will face a pair of somewhat inexperienced corners Saturday and will look to take advantage of them with his weapons on offense.

Central Michigan

Like South Florida’s Blake Barnett, Central Michigan is led by a quarterback who has transferred a few times. Quinten Dormady started his college career at the University of Tennessee. He played his first three years there before transferring to Houston last season. He played in just one game, so he used his redshirt and then transferred to Central Michigan.

Last week, he put up an impressive stat line against Albany. He threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns. This week, he will be going up against a much tougher defense that will likely put more pressure on him.

With the level of defense, each quarterback will be facing I think Dormady will have a much tougher time than Coan.

Advantage: Wisconsin
