The Wisconsin football team already has a commitment in their 2022 class in QB Myles Burkett, but there are a lot more prospects that Paul Chryst and the Badgers are still targeting. One of those targets is safety Cristian Driver.
If that name sounds familiar, it’s because he is the son of former Packer receiver, Donald Driver. That alone would make Wisconsin football fans excited if he committed to the Badgers, but there’s more to him than that. Driver has been making a name for himself as a safety down in Texas.
Recruiting profile
According to 247Sports, Driver is a 4-star prospect. He is the 201st ranked prospect in the 2022 class, 30th in the state of Texas, and 13th safety in the country. He attends Liberty Christian in Argyle, Texas. Coincidentally, Liberty Christian is the school that hired former Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, as their next head coach.
He plays on both sides of the ball as a receiver and safety. As a sophomore, he caught six passes for 66 yards and a pair of touchdowns on offense.
Driver has multiple schools pursuing him. He has over 40 scholarship offers from schools like Wisconsin, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Ohio St., Oklahoma, and many more. Needless to say, Cristian Driver is a hot commodity in this 2022 recruiting class.
Normally, these high powered prospects aren’t the ones the Badgers usually get, but things may be different for Driver. With his dad playing in Green Bay, Driver has spent a lot of time in the state of Wisconsin. He has ties there and maybe he still sees Wisconsin as another home. He announced his offer from Wisconsin on his Twitter page and it is still pinned at the top.
On November 6, Driver released his top 12, which includes Wisconsin. Along with Wisconsin are 11 other big-time schools.
Some of these schools are recruiting him as a receiver, rather than safety. I would expect whatever position he wants to play in school will play a big role in the school he chooses.
The Wisconsin football team would benefit from having a player like Driver. Currently, there are seven safeties on the roster heading into the 2021 season. Hunter Wohler was the only safety as a part of the 2021 class. Braelon Allen is being considered a linebacker on Badger247.
Should Cristian Driver join the Badgers, it would show the rest of the country that Wisconsin’s recent success in recruiting isn’t a fluke and they are starting to ramp things up.
Driver doesn’t have a public timeline of when he will make a commitment, but I’m sure Wisconsin football fans will be following his recruitment closely in hopes that he comes back to the state of Wisconsin.
